While we are in no way implying that you should forego medical treatment in favour of yoga to beat infertility, this ancient form of keeping healthy can act as a good weapon in your arsenal.

1. Legs-On-The-Wall Pose or Viparita Karani

If there is a one good way to direct the sperm towards your fallopian tubes, this is the best one! This pose acts as a wonderful relaxant for the spine and hips too, but the legs-on-the-wall pose makes best use of gravity to help sperm towards their goal of meeting the egg.

You could stay in this position for as long as you are comfortable, and reap the added benefit of relaxing your mind as you straighten and stretch your spine.

2. Supported Bridge Pose or Pelvic tilt pose

Lie with your back on the floor. Put your feet on the floor. Relax your shoulders and lengthen your neck. Doing this breathe in and out. When you breathe out lift your pelvis while pointing it toward the ceiling. Take long slow breaths and then gradually bring down your spine one vertebrae at a time on the floor until the entire backside is resting on the floor again.

This fertility yoga pose gets the blood flowing through your pelvic region, thereby strengthening and the muscles in the area. When you raise your body bringing it to a bridge formation, you are enabling your pelvic region to expand thereby allowing blood flow to the lower areas of your body.

3. Cobra Pose

For this pose lay flat on the ground on your tummy with your hands palm down on the floor below your shoulders and your feet top down on the floor. Breathe in deeply and then exhale, slowly lifting your torso while arching your back and neck while pressing your feet, legs and hips downwards. Hold this pose for 15 to 30 seconds and breathe naturally. Release the pose to return to lying flat on the floor.

This important asana strengthens your back muscles and also stimulates healthy hormone production in the uterus. The cobra pose not only opens the lungs and chest area, but also increases the blood flow into the pelvic area and in the reproductive organs.

4. Butterfly Pose

In this pose, sit with your legs crossed on the floor, put your feet together and then draw them in as close to your body as you can while you sit keeping your back straight.

Then you hold your hands to your feet and breathe in deeply. Close your eyes and focus on your organs that are in the pelvic area.

This posture improves flexibility in the regions below the waist by stretching the inner thighs, genital areas and knees. This helps release any toxins and negative energy in the hip and groin areas. The flapping of the thighs also helps in increasing the sperm count in men. For women, the butterfly pose aids the ovaries to function properly and regularising of periods. This pose does not only help boost fertility levels but also ensures a smoother delivery when practiced till late pregnancy. 

5. Child’s Pose

To practice this fertility yoga pose, get down on your hands and knees and then lean all the way forward while stretching your arms and hands above your head against the floor. Move your buttocks to loosen the muscles in your lower back. Rest your forehead against the floor as you do so.

With this fertility yoga pose, the muscles of the hips, thighs and ankles are stretched and strengthened leading to calming of the brain resulting in stress relief and fatigue relief. It also helps with better alignment of pelvis and increase in the blood flow, which is very important to boost fertility in the body. This pose also helps to rejuvenate the body and thus can help you to relax and hopefully increase your chances of getting pregnant.

6. Shavasana or Corpse pose

The corpse pose is helpful to induce conscious yogic sleep called Yoga Nidra. It helps with the attainment of equilibrium of the mind and the body. This pose is considered to be as it helps in uplifting the state of mind. Even though this meditative state of sleep does not improve the level of fertility directly, but it helps put you at ease and is very useful for couples who wish to start a family.
