Summer is a great time to catch up on all those “All time” favourite movies for your teenager. Our list here, comprises the Top 20 English movies for teens, which are still popular among youngsters.

1. The breakfast club: This is a golden oldie. A movie from 1985, it is considered one of the best “coming of age” high school movies. It is about 5 teenagers who have to spend time together because of detention and get to know each other.

2. Legally Blonde: This is a hilarious 2001 comedy movie about a girl who breaks the stereotype of a “dumb blonde” in law school. How she beats the prejudice is what the movie is all about.

3. Bend it like Beckham: This is a British comedy about a young Punjabi girl living in London who loves to play football. Beckham is her hero. Her parents are not happy with her passion. She gets chosen to play for her league and how she convinces her parents is the story.

4. Back to the future: This is a sci-fi classic comical that is a must see for all kids. It is about time travel in a time machine. It is rated as one of the best movies and features in a number of lists as a must not miss movie.

5. 10 things I hate about you: This movie from 1999 is a modernized version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. It is a romantic comedy that was a blockbuster hit back then.

6. Juno: This movie is an Oscar winner from 2007 for best comedy-drama film. It is about the unplanned pregnancy of a strong minded teenager and the repercussions of it.

7. Bring it on: This is a 2000 teen comedy film. Even though it is about the clichéd topic of cheerleading that has been done in many movies, it still was the largest grosser at the time and considered a cult classic.

8. Hunger games: This movie is based on the novel by the same name which has broken all records in book sales. The movie is about a post apocalyptic world and a reality TV kind of scenario where 24 Teenagers are pitted against each other in a deadly battle. Only one of them can survive. The book is very true to the movie and a huge hit as well.

9. The Harry Potter series: This fantastic book series that took the world by storm has been made into movies. The British drama series is a must see if your child is already smitten by the Harry potter bug.

10. The Blind side: This is a sports movie based on the life of the football player Michael Oher. Sandra Bullock won the Oscar for her role in this movie and it is considered an inspirational film with good values.

11. Dazed and confused: This is touted as one of the best films of Quentin Tarantino and ranked as one of the best high school movies of all time. The story is about a group of Texas Teenagers on their last day of school. The film features many actors who became famous later like Ben Affleck, Mathew McConaughey, Mila Jovovich etc.

12. Clueless: This is a 1995 teen comedy film. It is about the life of a rich teenage girl played by Alicia Silverstone. It is loosely based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen. 13. Inception: This is a highly acclaimed 2010 science fiction thriller starring Leonardo Di Caprio. It is directed by Christopher Nolan and is about the story of a professional thief who commits corporate fraud by getting into the subconscious mind of his victims. The movie is intense and complex and ideal for older teens.

14. The devil wears Prada : This is a terrific movie for teens about a young girl (played by Anne Hathaway) who lands her first job at a fashion house and has to work for demanding boss played by Meryl Streep. Both the actors give stellar performances in this fun movie that is such a delight to watch as Anne Hathaway stands up for herself.

15. The fault in our stars: This is a movie based on the novel by the same name written by John Greene. It is a serious movie about a 16 year old cancer patient who falls in love. A poignant story about the harsh realities of life and the inexorable pull of love.

 16. Remember the Titans: This is yet another inspirational sports drama movie that will move you. It is based on the real life story of a football coach and delves into the topics of racism, athletics and discrimination. Highly inspiring, this movie is a must watch for teens.

17. Pitch Perfect: If musicals are your teens’ thing, then Pitch perfect is the movie to watch. It is about a teenager getting into a music group and competing in a National competition. With excellent performances and great music, this movie is a rave for music lovers.

18. The Curious case of Benjamin Button: This film featuring Brad Pitt received 13 Oscar nominations including Best Picture. It is an amazing story of a man who starts aging backwards. A fascinating concept that has been well told, this is a sure draw for older teens.

 19. Shawshank Redemption: This is a 1994 Drama based on a novel of the same name. The story is about a man who is wrongly convicted of murder. A serious and profound drama with fantastic performances by the lead characters, this movie is a great watch for the 16+ age category.

20. 12 Angry Men: This 1957 movie is shared in so many graduate psychology classes to showcase the vagaries of the human mind. What seemed like a slam dunk conviction by a jury slowly unravels. A fascinating story of justice. An intelligent plot and an amazing portrayal of characters, you cannot go wrong with this ageless classic.
