the lion, the witch and the wardrobe- Book Reviews by ZenParent

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a time tested classic fantasy novel by C.S. Lewis. It was published in the year 1950. C.S.Lewis was an Irish writer who was a professor of English  at Oxford University and interestingly a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of the popular Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fantasy series. This book is the first published and the most popular book in the series of 7 novels called The Chronicles of Narnia.

Premise:

The book is set in the fantasy land of Narnia which is full of magical creatures and talking animals. Narnia has been bewitched to remain a winter land for 100 years by an evil queen. Four children are sent to live in the country with an eccentric professor due to evacuation from London during World War II. As the children explore the quaint house, one by one they accidentally tumble into Narnia through a wardrobe in a spare room. The adventures of these children as they go about freeing Narnia from the evil witch with the help of a mystical Lion named Aslan is what the story is all about.

Acclaim:

The book was made into a movie in 2005 and directed by Andrew Adamson. The movie was a blockbuster hit grossing 745million$ worldwide and won many awards at the Oscars.

This book is recommended for Ages 8 and above. In fact it is even enjoyed by adults , similar to the Harry Potter series,  straddling across age groups. An ageless classic, this book is definitely one of the must-reads for your child
