the hungry caterpillar for children's reading- Book reviews by ZenParent

There are many lists about must-have books for children, and you’ll be hard pressed to find one that doesn’t include The Very Hungry Caterpillar there! This little gem by Eric Carle has won several awards across the world, and has been translated into a whopping 40 languages! And if that isn’t enough to convince you, hear this – 30 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide!

The book, as you can guess, is about a little green caterpillar, who is not just hungry; he is ravenous! He eats a large assortment of foods, ranging from healthy fruit to not-so-healthy lollipops. You can try to guess what happens to him after all that feasting, but you’ll have to read the book to be sure!

The book is available in a board book format, making it perfect for little hands that haven’t yet mastered turning paper pages. The illustrations are truly the soul of the book, in bright, yet realistic colors. The food pictures are beautifully detailed and young children will love to point out their favorites. There is a lot of learning value in the book, about colors, days of the week, kinds of foods and of course a natural progression of a caterpillar’s life. You know they’ve got it right when even the Royal Entomological Society endorses the book!

It doesn’t need repeating, but this book is a must have for every child in the age group 2-6. You can get the book here, or if you’d like to make a gift out of it, you can get the book and toy combo from here.
