Roald Dahl- Book review by ZenParent

This summer, it’s time to add some Roald Dahl editions to your child’s book collection. One of the most acknowledged and loved authors for children’s books, this series grasps a child’s attention so much so that he/she truly imagines and experiences the surreal world of the characters- the Oompa-Loompas, the Muggle-wump monkey, the Roly-poly bird and other enchanting wacky faces in his books.

Among the many books that Roald Dahl has written- Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Fantastic Mr. Fox have been staple childhood reads for several generations now.

Dahl’s incredible characters and stories full of magic, whim and humour will make them the most memorable reads for your children.

Some famous excerpts from his books:

1. “If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it…

…A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

The Twits

2. “George didn’t say a word. He felt quite trembly. He knew something tremendous had taken place that morning. For a brief moment he had touched with the very tips of his fingers the edge of a magic world.”

– George’s Marvelous Medicine

3. “I understand what you’re saying, and your comments are valuable, but I’m gonna ignore your advice.”

– Fantastic Mr. Fox

4. “I’ve heard tell that what you imagine sometimes comes true.”

– Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

5. “Dreams is very mystical things,’ the BFG said, “Human bens is not understanding them at all. Not even their brainiest professors is understanding them.”
