Procedure:

Soak the moong dal in warm water for 15 minutes. Chop all the vegetables and keep aside.

In a pressure cooker, heat a little oil or ghee. Add all the ingredients listed under ‘Ingredients For Tempering’ one by one. Then add the broken wheat. Fry the broken wheat for 2 minutes till a nice aroma comes through. Add the soaked and drained moong dal and fry for 1 to 2 minutes.

Next add the vegetables and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes and add salt. Add turmeric and garam masala powders. Now add 1 to 2 cups of water for a slightly runny khichdi or lesser for a thick khichdi. Pressure cook till the cooker releases 2-3 whistles. Allow the pressure settle on it’s own.

Now add cracked black pepper and stir. Adjust salt and spices according to your taste and combine well. Serve Fada Ni Khichdi hot with a cool raita.
