5 Recipes For A Fun Valentine’s Day Meal With Your Kids

An easy calzone recipe that kids will have fun eating on Valentine’s Day, or any day you want to serve up some love with dinner. Kids can help with filling the dough and crimping edges.

Heart Shaped Calzone For Kids


Combine 1 sachet of dried active yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 cup warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Mix together 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour, 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 3 tablespoons olive oil. Into this add the yeast mixture, combine well and allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours, until it doubles in size.

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degree Fahrenheit.

Roll out a small portion of the dough at one time and cut two equal sized hearts with a cookie cutter.

Take one heart and fill the middle with a thin layer of marinara sauce/ ketchup with any dried or fresh herbs/ pizza sauce etc, any filling like roasted vegetables, cooked chicken or pepperoni slices and desired amount of cheese. Cover the top with another heart and crimp the edges together with a fork.

Set on a greased baking tray. Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes (oven times may vary) until lightly browned. Serve with ketchup for dipping.

Strawberry Sweethearts Cocoa


In a medium-sized bowl, melt 1 cup mini chocolate chips. Dip the top of four mugs/ serving glasses into the chocolate. Set aside, allowing the chocolate to harden.

In a pot, whisk together 4 tablespoons butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 2 cups strawberry ice cream over medium high heat until melted. Whisk in 3 cups water (do not add everything in one go, one cup at a time deciding the consistency you want), one cup at a time until your favorite texture/ flavor is achieved. Heat just until steam comes through.

Pour into chocolate-rimmed mugs. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of chocolate sprinkles (assorted colors will make it look prettier). Serve with your favorite bite-sized cookies for dipping. (those sugar kissed little hearts is perfect)

Beat one egg using a fork, and leave aside. Add about 3/4 cup milk into it and whisl well. Add 1 teaspoon maple syrup and stir well.

Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes from the center of bread slices.

Dip all bread pieces into egg mixture and set onto large skillet or pan on medium heat. Brown lightly on both sides.

Garnish with cut strawberries and maple syrup.

Add 12 ounces cream cheese, 12 ounces roasted bell peppers, 1 teaspoon paprika (if you have smoked paprika, even better), 1 clove garlic, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, adequate amount of salt into a blender/ food processor. Blend until smooth.

Serve as a spread on bagels/ bread/ English muffins etc…with a round slice of red bell pepper cut into 2 and arranged as a heart.

No Bake Cheescake Stuffed Strawberries


Remove insides of 2 cups of strawberries with a small knife to create a cup for the filling.

In a bowl, mix together 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract.

Place the cream cheese mixture in a pastry bag and pipe into the strawberries. Garnish with a cheese cracker and enjoy.
