Pregnancy means the body is retaining more fluids than usual and this is causing your legs to swell. The added pressure to your leg veins and pressure from the baby on the veins in the pelvic region are all making things worse.

Your shoes don’t fit, your feet ache and how you wish the swelling would just go away. Well, here are some remedies to help with ease the pain and reduce the swelling:

  1. An Epsom salt soak
    Add some salt to warm water and soak your feet in them for 20-25mins (more if you have time) to reduce swelling of feet. The salt also helps soothe dry skin and keep the feet smelling nice longer.
  2. Massage with Mustard Oil
    Mustard oil has anti-inflammatory properties making it a nice option for a foot massage. A massage with it generates heat which also relieves muscle pain.
  3. Massage with Castor Oil
    Castor oil has anti-inflammatory properties and also soothes pain.
  4. Vitamin C and E rich food
    Vitamin C and E rich food (melons, strawberries, nuts, etc.) can reduce swelling appreciably.
  5. Avoid salt and caffeine intake
    They increase water retention in the body and increase swelling.
  6. Drinking fluids
    The more fluids you consume the more fluids are flushed out of your system.
  7. Cold compress
    A cold compress helps soothe the swollen feet.
  8. Yoga/ Stretches
    Stretching improves circulation and prevents water getting retained in the feet.
  9. Wear comfortable shoes
    As your feet are now carrying so much weight ensure they are comfortable.
  10. Put your feet up
    Putting your feet up inverts gravity and helps drain fluids away from the feet, reducing the swelling.
