Is Breast Pump Necessary for Moms?

In case you are wondering, “Oh I am going to be a Stay at home mom with my child, and therefore I don’t need a breast pump”, think again! One of the beautiful inventions for the modern woman is the breast pump. Some women are hesitant to get into breast feeding because they worry if it means they will never be able to get away from the baby! That is where the breast pump comes in so handy! Even though I was a SAHM with my kids, I still found it exceedingly useful to have used it. Being a SAHM is great, but I still needed to get away and run my errands and get my groceries etc. Being a bit of a breastfeeding Nazi and wanting to give my child nothing breastmilk 100% of the time, I pumped a feed, gave it to my caregiver and left the house to do my stuff. I felt really good that even when I was not around my child was getting breastmilk.  Forget shopping for groceries, sometimes just for your sanity, you may want to take a break and go out for lunch with your friend, for some adult conversation or ‘me’ time. No need to worry or try Infant formula.  Just pump enough for a feed in advance, hand over the bottle of breast milk to your caregiver and take off for some recharge time.Sometimes, when the baby slept for longer hours and I started leaking, I would pump the excess and stash it away in the freezer for an emergency. The nipples also get really sore during breastfeeding for some women -  the pump gives you a break from direct nursing and still gets the job done. So, along with nursing the baby, I built a stash of frozen breast milk in my freezer, for emergencies, errands etc. Also when we went on road trips when I did not want to take the baby out of the harnessed car seat, or if I knew I was going to be outdoors in a place where it is inconvenient to nurse the baby, I took the pumped bottle of milk with me.  Let’s say you are going to be at an Indian wedding, finding a private corner to nurse can be next to impossible. Carrying a bottle of breastmilk is so convenient on those occasions. When the baby was 6 months old, I used up some of my stash to mix baby cereal or pureed veggies in to sweeten it as first food.I have had the experience of using the  below mentioned two models of breast-pump and found both great.Manual model-Philips Avent [text_image_affiliate img_src="" link="" link_text="Buy Online, Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump"]The electric breast pump[caption id="attachment_86033" align="aligncenter" width="300"]electric bp Buy Online, Medela Freestyle Double Electric Breast Pump [/caption]If you know for sure that you are going to be a SAHM ,then you do not need the very expensive electric pump, but the Manual pump still gets the job well done and is awesome for all those times when nursing is very inconvenient or you just need to be away from your baby for some time.
