Researchers at Salford University, England have found that a 6-week post-partum period is insufficient for mothers to recover from childbirth. A complete recovery may take as long as a year. How celebrity moms recover back to their previous selves in weeks with a wave of a magic wand is frustrating, and some moms feel the pressure to do the same.

Dr. Julie Wray, the lead author from the research team interviewed many moms and came out with the study conclusion that the 6-week recovery time after delivery is just a white lie. During the study, many women mentioned how difficult it was for them to join back at work after a 2-month maternity leave. A mere 60 days after the birth women are still recouping from the trauma their bodies have gone through during the birth.

Dr. Wray also discovered that a stay at the hospitals after the birth are becoming shorter with moms being sent home as early as 6 hours after delivery. Even during the time moms spend there, the atmosphere is filled with hustle-bustle due to so many visitors and hospital rules that she doesn’t get to spend a peaceful time with her baby. Wray says there is a need for more postnatal services that can provide the new moms much deserved care and support.

A similar study was also conducted by Dr. Janis M. Miller at the School of Nursing in Michigan University, USA.Around 68 women were involved in the study, who had specific birth-related risks. As was expected, the results were similar. Many moms suffer from back pain, perineum pain, urinary incontinence, and anal tear. It takes months for a mom to heal physically.
