Shilpa Shetty: Home Makers Are Underpaid And Overworked

Ravishing, stylish and a go-getter Shilpa Shetty has hogged the limelight for one reason or the other. If once it was for her svelte figure, the other time it was for her fitness website where she shares the secrets to her fit and fabulous avatar.

However, on talking about stay-at-home moms, Viaan’s mommy makes an honest confession. “I totally respect the fact that if you are a homemaker, it’s even more than a full-time job. There (on the job) you have breaks and you can switch-off. Here, it’s a thankless job. You are underpaid and overworked,” she says.

She also adds that women are doing everything and anything and in fact feels they do it better than men. “There isn’t anything that we are not capable of doing. We are multi-faceted personalities and are able to multi-task much better than men. We look after our family. We take care of our in-laws, children, our husbands, which is a full-time job in itself… and plus we bring home the bread. There are a lot of women who are doing all of that today,” she says.’

All this aside, the actress does not shy away from her responsibilities and is a hands-on mom to her five-year-old son. “These days play dates have become a new way to entertain children. I don’t know how our parents did it. I do my best to keep Viaan occupied in extra-curricular activities. There is a teacher who comes home for gymnastics… he loves that. He doesn’t need that many play dates,” she says.

Felt like you heard your mind voice? Well, like it or not, this is just what most of us feel and why not! After all being a mother comes with no leaves, working round the clock and of course putting up a broad smile even when you want to stab someone!
