What you should know before you buy diapers for your child

If you’re going for disposable diapers (let’s face it: while we all want to live eco-friendly lives, disposable diapers are really, really easy and convenient) then you will know that there’s a wide variety to choose from these days. From fits to the kind of material they are made of, deciding what diaper you buy for your baby can be either an indifferent or an arduous task, depending on how you approach the problem.

No matter what brand you choose, however, there are a few things that you must remember to watch out for before you decide to buy diapers. Typically, parents of little children buy diapers in bulk, especially if they don’t do cloth diapering. In India, most middle-income (and above) households use a mixture of cloth and disposable diapers; usually using the former in the day, and the latter at night to ensure longer sleep time. And this is exactly why you need to know what to look for in a good diaper and how to find one.

1.    Buy the smallest pack available, at first. This will tell you all you need to know about how dry it keeps your baby, whether the size is right and if it gives him/her an allergy. Diapers are expensive in India and it is best to find the one brand that works best for you.

2.    Use diapers that are enriched with natural and herbal ingredients like Aloe Vera and Yashada Bhasma, which form a protective anti-rash shield.

3.    Check for tabs and their positioning. There’s no way to tell just by looking. So if you’ve diapered your baby right and find that tabs are cutting into your baby’s skin, no matter how many different ways you’ve done it, throw that brand out. It can leave rashes, or even tiny cuts, on the skin that can get very painful.

4.    Check for rashes around the buttocks area just to make sure the materials used suits your child’s skin.

5.    Wait to buy your baby's first diapers until just before or after he/she is born and you know their weight. A few packages of newborn diapers may be all you need before heading onto size 1.

6.    Don't buy in bulk until you are satisfied with a specific diaper's performance and fit.

7.    Finally, consider your baby’s needs as well as your priorities. Every family has their own bottom line. Is it cost? Health? The environment? The perfect fit? Or do you just want it all?

That’s why the various pack sizes that Himalaya diapers are available in are a boon. They’re perfect for travel, and they’re perfect for stocking at home. With the advantages of herbal remedies and natural active ingredients, there’s very little chance that delicate baby skin will be harmed if you use them regularly.
