Swine Flu protection for kids- Parenting resources by ZenParent

Did you know that children are more prone to getting swine flu than adults in India?

The uproar around swine flu has been scaring all of us! The outburst across our country has brought in an alarming situation to take necessary steps right away in order to curb this disease fully.

But not many of us really take it seriously. Stats show that this illness is spreading like an epidemic. And as parents, we must take serious precautions to keep this disease at bay since the immune system of children isn’t as strong as that of adults.

Children under the age of 2 and those suffering from asthma are even more vulnerable to this illness. If you’re unaware as to how to keep this flu away from attacking your children, here are some workable solutions to help:

1. It’s important to take your kids to the pediatrician and get the vaccinations done for seasonal flu and 2009 H1N1 flu.

2. Whenever you cough or sneeze, keep a hanky handy to cover your mouth and nose. Avoid direct use of hands.

3. Maintain good hand hygiene, both for your kids as well as other family members. Ensure your children are washing their hands, especially when they come in from outside and before meals. Use hand sanitizers when outside the home.

4. Drink lots of (boiled) water to ensure body is hydrated.

4. If you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours, stay at home until the fever is gone. In case, the flu stays, visit the doctor immediately.

To understand the basic symptoms of swine flu, observe if your child has the following symptoms:

  1. Sore throat
  2. Persistent cough and cold
  3. Fever above 100 F
  4. Fatigue with constant headache
  5. Body rash
  6. Nausea, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea

It can be difficult to push your kiddo to wearing masks. So, get some creative ways and accompany them to help them feel comfortable at the same time. Remember, for your child to remain absolutely healthy, prevention is indeed better than cure!
