Child-friendly farm-stays near Mumbai

Having grown up in small towns with plenty of greenery and open space all around, I constantly keep looking for places where my little ones can get their share of nature. Summer vacation seems like the ideal time to escape into nature’s lap. Fortunately, there are quite a few splendid farm-stays put up by thoughtful nature lovers, giving us city dwellers an occasion to have our brush with nature. Here are three such farm-stays we visited recently, a few hours away from Mumbai.  What I especially like about all these places is the way they offer an ideal, child-friendly holiday with great country side experience, interaction with animals and an amazing involvement in farm activities.1. About 2 hours drive from Mumbai, near Vikramgad Taluka is this serene, unpretentious farm stay, with a vastness ever so welcoming to the space-crunched city kids. The rustic ambience of the place has an instant calming effect, while the green patch of flora summons your kids to plunge head on and indulge with mother earth. Here’s what your kids can do while you relax and unwind:
  • Planting seeds - Hemant and Sangeeta, the owners of the place actually let the kids join them in some serious farming, while playfully enriching them with loads of first-hand information on how various crops are grown, techniques of sowing seeds, suitable weather conditions for each crop, nutritional benefits of various vegetables, and more.
  • Feeding and playing with animals– There are cows, ducks and hens that the kids can feed and have their fill of petting. It is fun to watch kids pamper the cuddly cats and dogs lounging around the farm.
  • Cooling off - Your kids can cool off at the well or you could drive them down to one of the several waterfalls located nearby.
  • Cooking & Salad Making - Also, watch your kids acquire some culinary skills as they help out with some healthy cooking and salad making.
