7 Actresses Who Shot For Films During Their Pregnancy

Like Kareena Kapoor said, she's pregnant, not a corpse. There's no need to make a big deal about the fact that she's pregnant - why shouldn't she work, as long as she's feeling up to it? As long her doctor gives her the thumbs-up. And Prateek Sur shows you that she's not the pioneer here.


Rumour mills had gone into an overdrive stating that Kareena Kapoor may opt out of Veere Di Wedding owing to her pregnancy. However, the film’s producer Rhea Kapoor quashed these rumours, insisting that the actress is very much a part of the film (Rhea: Kareena is very much doing my film. Can e leave a pregnant woman alone?, Aug 23). The actress, who is currently in her second trimester, will shoot some portions in October and complete the remaining film in March after her delivery.

Kareena won’t be the first B-Town actress to have shot for a film while being pregnant. Here are few others who managed to do it with ease. Take a look:


Kajol was pregnant with her second child when she was shooting for Karan Johar’s We Are Family in 2010. In fact, Kajol had refused to shake a leg to the dance number Let’s Rock since she was in her first trimester then and had to take necessary precautions. However, KJo specially asked the choreographer to change the steps to suit Kajol. While the film released on September 10th, Kajol gave birth to baby boy Yug only 3 days later. She also wrapped up the shoot of Toonpur Ka Superhero before taking her maternity break.

Konkona Sen Sharma

Konkona had completed the shoot of Mirch and Right Yaa Wrong in 2010 when she announced her pregnancy. But the professional that she is, the actress made sure that she attended the films’ promotions. Her son Haroon was then born on March 15, 2011.

Juhi Chawla

When Juhi was pregnant with her first child Jhanvi in 2001, she did not shy away from shooting for 2 films – Ek Rishtaa and Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa. Interestingly, she was working when she became preggers the second time around too. The actress was in her second trimester when she shot for Jhankaar Beats in 2003 – Juhi played the role of a pregnant woman in the musical. Later that year, she gave birth to Arjun.


Sridevi was pregnant with her first daughter Jhanvi in 1997. However, the actress made sure she completed shooting her portions of Judaai before taking her maternity break.

Nandita Das

Despite being in her second trimester, Nandita shot for Onir’s I Am in April 2010. While the dusky actress gave birth to little baby Vihaan on August 11, the film as screened at IView Film Festival in September 2010 and hit theatres in India in April next year.

Tara Sharma

Tara shot for Suno Na in 2009 when she was pregnant with her first son Zen. Interestingly, she had to play the role of a pregnant woman in the film. 

Jaya Bachchan

Jaya Bachchan, who had tied the knot with Amitabh Bachchan in June 1973, was expecting her first child Shweta when Sholay went on floors later that year. It is said that Jaya’s pregnancy even delayed the shooting for some time. Shweta was born on March 17, 1974. Interestingly, when Sholay hit the screens on August 15, 1975, the Bachchan couple was expecting their second child Abhishek.
