So go ahead and make Dad’s day this weekend truly special with movies featuring some cool Dads like him!

1. Chef (2014)

Food has often been used as a catalyst in relationships in movies, and this time, it strengthens the bond between a chef and his son. Recently unemployed chef Casper sets off on a journey across America with his son and as is the case in most journey movies, the father-son duo learn a lot about each other on the way. There are a few abuses in this, so this movie’s probably better for the 8-plus crowd.

Based on a true story and featuring a real life son and father, this movie touches your heart in many places. A father who’s driven to the streets but who’s determined to make it for his son’s sake – now that’s what superheroes really are!! The movie doesn’t have anything unsuitable for kids particularly, but some kids might find the idea of being homeless depressing.

This Robin Williams was probably loved by every Dad when it was released and it’s still a hit among them, making this a great pick for this weekend!! Robin Williams’ very convincing acting as a woman is a hoot and there’s lots of laughter in store. Kids below 5 might not understand some of the jokes, but otherwise it’s a great family movie.

6. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

This is the oldest movie in our list, but it’s here for a reason; even after all these decades, this movie and the Dad in it can still stand tall among other Dads’ movies. Atticus Finch is a true role model for his kids and they believe in him wholeheartedly with their little hearts. There aren’t too many movies featuring fathers and little daughters, but this is one of them. This movie deals with a few intense themes, and revolves around a rape trial, so it’s better restricted to kids above the age of 10.

7. Mr. Mom (1983)

We’re not sure if this should be a Mother’s Day or Father’s Day movie!! Jack loses his job and becomes a stay-at-home-dad while the mom goes to work. The tables are turned and Jack is clueless! Lots of laughs in store here, as Jack goes about trying to figure out his new job. This movie is great for all ages, especially the younger ones.

This father and son movie is different from the rest, considering its actually the son who’s central to the plot. It’s got an interesting premise, but this is definitely not for the younger crowd. A child over the age of 10 will be able to understand how people have different opinions as they grow, which needn’t be the same as their parents. A great watch for Dads and sons.

The father in this movie is a single Dad, still trying to overcome a tragedy and rebuild his life with his kids at the same time. But all this has to happen around a zoo, since that’s where their new home is!! This is a sweet family movie that’ll warm the hearts of everyone watching. A good pick for kids over 5, although the mention of the mother dying may upset some children.
