An evening consisting of two soul-searching dramatic works, the program begins with an adaptation of Heather Raffo’s outstanding play 9 Parts of Desire. The original play centers around the conflict in Iraq between 1963 and 2003 and the playwright focused on the period of Saddam Hussein’s reign. This objective is manifested in her portrayal of the nine female characters. This adaptation is a hard hitting analysis of Armchair Politics and Western Hegemony. Using a segmented format for the play with multimedia and properties of sensorama, audiences are taken through a self-reflective journey.

The second part of the program is The Tragedy of Lady Macbeth, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, which combines Shakespearean and absurdist theatres. This version of the play is an amalgamation of Macbeth and Samuel Beckett’s Eh Joe, with a spatter of dialogues from King Lear. The play uses both modern and Elizabethan forms of English.
The play brings out the trauma of Lady Macbeth, drawing the trajectory of her descent into madness through a deep exploration of the character and through experimentation with different forms of theatre.

So, Ta’al? Come please.
