The Legends of Khasak (Khasakkinte Ithihasam) is a bold and independent adaptation of O.V. Vijayan’s epic novel of the same name. The 205 minute spectacle recreates the imaginary rustic abode of the legendary land Khasak. The play happens on an open-air arena, on a large rectangular pit of loose earth and extensively use fire, soil, water, scent, fog and sky. It also makes use of huge puppets and masks with real and effective feel that allows audience to participate and experience the pleasures and tragedies that engulf Khasak.
Khasakkinte Ithihasam (The Legends of Khasak) penned by O. V. Vijayan is the first and arguably the best Indian novel based on magical realism. The novelty of the style and content in Khasak altered the history of Malayalam literature forever and redefined the literary sensibilities of the average Malayalam reader. Khasak walked the unconventional path of taking the reader through a fascinating history and the existential crises of a people through the experiences of its protagonist, Ravi and the legends that surround the rural hamlet.
The play has taken the Kerala theatre scene by storm and we believe, it will be of great benefit to the populace of Bangalore to have an opportunity to view the play, subtitled in English. This program is a fundraiser for the charity activities of ENVISAG Trust, Kasaragod who support the victims of Endosulfan tragedy and NECAB Charity trust that provides support to the impoverished students in the government schools in and around Bangalore.
