This dance recital is an attempt to define and present the journey of motherhood through the vibrant traditional grammar of Bharatanatyam. The journey of motherhood, for a woman, is an important milestone in her life and a successful culmination provides her with unparalleled delight and a feeling of accomplishment.
A woman however undergoes many changes both physically and emotionally during this journey. There are moments of agony, sorrow, self-doubt and sometimes these conflicting emotions give rise to a feeling of guilt. The excitement about the future is mixed with anxiety of what it holds.
For Anuradha Venkataraman, motherhood was an enriching creative experience. This production is her interpretation, via the medium of Bharatanatyam, of those emotions. This production traces the journey from the concept of procreation. It explores the psyche of a mother through various historical and mythological characters. Eclectic sources from the Atharva-Veda to the contemporary works of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Rabindranath Tagore are used as the narrative backbone.
Above all this recital is a tribute and celebration of Motherhood.
