For the first time on a Mumbai stage, a concert dedicated to Latin jazz is being staged. Over the last 60 years, the exciting rhythms and polyrhythms in the music of the Caribbean islands and South America have been absorbed into the mainstream of jazz music. As early as the 1940s, Duke Ellington, along with Juan Tizol, introduced these rhythms into his famous composition; Caravan. Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie composed a whole range of songs with Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo. Later, Stan Getz brought the bossa nova beat and music from Brazil with Antonio Carlos Jobim, the creator of this sound, into jazz. The programme will also include a lively dance performance by professional dancers. Latin music brings the music of the samba, rumba, tango and cha cha cha, all played by Dee Wood (bass), Carl Clements (saxophone), Karim Ellaboudi (piano), Aron Nyiro (drums) and Anand Bhagat (percussion).Line-up:
